FAQS

What advantages do the Takacat catamarans inflatables have over conventional Mono hulls?

Efficiency

                                                - Less Drag

- Faster planning

- Less Hp required

- Faster hull speed

Stability

As the Takacat catamarans are made up of two large inflatable hulls, it stands to reason that they are far more stable than a mono-hull. The Takacat Freedom range also has a double ballast system that provides even greater stability reducing the chances of capsizing. You will not find more stable boats in their size ranges.

Safety

With a raised floor design, these unique catamarans utilize the use of wash through transoms; this in turn eliminates the possibility of holding water that can cause capsizing if swamped. This feature also provides a dry deck and no added weight caused by trapped water. There are at least 4 inflatable safety compartments starting with the Explorer 380 and moving up to 6 safety compartments with 2 additional under tubes in the Takacat 450 Freedom.

Fact:

In New Zealand nearly all-boating fatalities occur in boats under 6m and involve swamping or
capsize.

Boat launching and retrieval?

As most boaties know boat launching and retrieval can be the difference between a great day out or one that you would rather forget. Boat ramps can be dangerous and damaging both to your boat and the person holding it. Since Takacats are light & stable they are easy to manage at the boat ramp. If a Takacat hits the ramp there is no damage as the inflatable tubes absorb the impact where a fibreglass or aluminium boat will smash and crash and potentially have damage and weakening of the hull. Takacats are also ideal for beach launching and retrieval.

Do you have distributors?

No we choose to sell direct allowing us to communicate directly with our valued customers and provide them with the best quality product at the best available prices

Are Takacats available internationally?

Yes we do sell internationally. Please contact us directly and we will arrange to have a CIF quote to your closest port. Please e-mail info@takacat.com.

How should I transport my Takacat?

A flat deck trailer set-up is a great way to transport your Takacat. You can also use a skid system, which supports the hull from the floor. For further details and examples of trailer set-ups please e-mail info@takacat.com. The Explorer range can also be deflated, rolled up and transported in the boot of a station wagon or on roof racks.

If I need to make a warranty claim, how do you service this?

If you think you have a legitimate warranty claim simply e-mail info@takacat.com supply your details along with a description and photo of the fault. Once we have received this information we will then decide the best way to fix the fault while causing you the least possible hassle. This will probably involve Takacat working with a local repair shop to solve any fault that may have occurred.

Why do you only offer a 2 year warranty on PVC & 5 year warranty on Hypalon?

The main reason is to keep the prices down. If faults are found it is more than likely that this will happen in the first 2 years of use. We use quality materials and craftsmanship and prefer to put our time and money into making quality boats that last. The PVC fabrics that we use have a 5year warranty and the Hypalon fabrics have a 10-year warranty. If you would prefer to have a longer warranty period please e-mail info@takacat.com for a quote.

What's the difference between PVC and HYPALON?

Hypalon (Neoprene fabric) is glued and offers the best UV and abrasion resistance (also resitant against chemicals as well as high temperatures), colour stability and air-tightness in addition to great suppleness and high adhesion values in order to enhance workmanship.

PVC (Polyurethane fabric) is welded/thermo-bonded and shares similar characteristics. The major difference between the Hypalon and PVC is the ability of Hypalon to hancle UV rays better than the PVC. Hypalon is the best for any boat that is going to be stored outside on the deck of a yacht or on a davit system. The PVC fabric boats are best suited to rolling up.

What is the difference between the Takacat Explorer & Freedom series?

EXPLORER

The Takacat Explorer is our most cost effective & low maintenance series. The unique design comprises of 4 main parts; Two main inflatable tubes joint together by a fibreglass front cone & fibreglass transom along with removable floor boards that slot in on top of a fabric floor. The Explorer has heavy-duty protection on the bottom of the main tube.  The Explorer series has the shallowest draft of any boat in it's size and is great for shallow water operation and you can beached almost any wear. The Explorer range can also be deflated and rolled up for transportation.

FREEDOM

The Takacat Freedom is a Hi-Performance inflatable. “The new alternative to a mono-hull RIB!” This revolutionary design has a fibreglass hull that incorporates the front cone, floor and transom to be one. This means no removable floorboards, and is ideal for an open boat or fully consoled set-up. You will not find a softer ride from any boat in this size range and much larger. The Freedom series enjoys Hi-Performance, space and speed while using less hp and less fuel compared to a similar sized mono-hull RIB. It's in a class of its own and provides style & performance like no other.
